Volunteer as a Support Group Leader: Make a Difference in the Lives of
Families Affected by Atypical Parkinsonism

Position Title: Volunteer In-Person Support Group Leader (2 positions open)

Meeting Schedule: Last Monday of every month, 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM

Location: Church in Burlington, Ontario

Role Overview:
The In-Person Support Group Leader will be responsible for facilitating monthly support group meetings for individuals and families affected by Atypical Parkinsonism. The meetings aim to provide a safe and supportive environment where participants can share experiences, receive emotional support, and access valuable resources. The leader will ensure that each meeting is organized, welcoming, and productive.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Meeting Facilitation:
- Lead the monthly support group meetings, encouraging open and respectful communication among participants.
- Create a welcoming atmosphere where all attendees feel comfortable sharing their experiences and concerns.
- Prepare and present relevant topics, activities, or guest speakers to enhance the meeting's value.
2. Participant Engagement:
- Actively listen to participants, offering empathy and support as needed.
- Foster a sense of community among group members, encouraging mutual support and connection.
- Address any conflicts or issues that arise during the meetings in a constructive manner.
3. Organizational Duties:
- Plan and organize each meeting, including developing an agenda and preparing any necessary materials.
- Coordinate with guest speakers or facilitators, if applicable.
- Ensure the meeting space is set up appropriately and cleaned up afterward.
4. Resource Sharing:
- Provide participants with information about relevant resources, services, and support options available in the community.
- Stay informed about developments in the field of Atypical Parkinsonism to share with the group.
5. Communication:
- Maintain regular communication with participants, reminding them of upcoming meetings and any changes to the schedule.
- Gather feedback from participants to continually improve the support group experience.

Qualifications:
- Compassionate and empathetic, with excellent listening and interpersonal skills.
- Experience in leading groups or facilitating discussions is preferred.
- Knowledge of Atypical Parkinsonism and related neurological disorders is an asset but not required.
- Strong organizational and planning skills.
- Ability to manage group dynamics and address conflicts calmly and effectively.

Commitment:
- Attend and lead monthly support group meetings on the last Monday of every month from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
- Dedicate additional time for meeting preparation and follow-up communication as needed.
